I'm Sarah Ashton — an editorial photographer, filmmaker, and brand strategist based in Philadelphia.
Based on a True Story is both a philosophy and a practice—a belief that real life can be as cinematic and breathtaking as the fictional stories we all love.
IV Ever in August exists because most photographers hand you a gallery and walk away. I stay and create the content and build the strategy to make sure it actually works — for your brand, your feed, and the people you're trying to reach.
My background in psychology and consumer behavior informs everything I do. I shoot and I strategize with the same question in mind: what makes someone stop, feel something, and remember it.
The work spans portraits, weddings, hospitality, and brands — but the approach is always the same. Find the honest moment. Tell the true story. Make sure the right people see it.
My approach
My approach is rooted in the belief that the best content doesn't just show what something looked like — it captures what it felt like to be there.
Whether I'm shooting a restaurant at golden hour, building a content strategy for a brand that wants to be understood before it's explained, or photographing a person who's never felt at home in front of a camera — the intention is the same. Find the honest moment. Tell the true story. Make sure the right people see it.
I believe images and film are some of the most honest ways we have to hold onto what life offers us. To return to a photograph or a frame of video is to step briefly back into a moment — to remember how it sounded, how it moved, how it felt to be there. Being trusted with that — for a person, a place, or a brand — is where I find the deepest meaning in this work.
